Compliance Review and Penalties
ProhiBet, an NCAA partner tasked with monitoring wagering activity, alerted university officials on February 8 regarding the first case. The student-athlete had wagered $50 on the Super Bowl matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots via Kalshi. During a compliance review on February 17, the player confirmed the transaction and stated it was his sole sports wager. The university responded with mandatory rules education, citing a breach of NCAA bylaw 10.3, which bars athletes and staff from betting on sporting events.A second athlete was flagged by ProhiBet on February 15 for two $10 bets placed on the NBA All-Star Game through the same platform. Following a compliance meeting two days later, the player acknowledged the wagers, which both resulted in wins. As a result, he must donate $66.47 to a designated charity and complete the same educational requirement.
Both incidents were categorized as Level III violations, representing the lowest tier of NCAA enforcement.
